Our History

St Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church Sydney …. Originally St Mary’s Indian Orthodox Congregation, Sydney, was declared as started by His Grace Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros , Metropolitan of the Diocese of Madras of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (also known as the Indian Orthodox Church), as of 1st August 2011. This was done with the blessings and support of His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, the head of the Indian Orthodox Church.

The beginning of the Congregation was the result of a long felt need among some people of the Indian Orthodox faithful in Sydney for a second place of worship in the city after the St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Cathedral located in the southern part of the city in Wattle Grove, Holsworthy. The new Congregation is based in the area broadly referred to as North and North West Sydney.

The task at hand is to develop and grow this fledgling congregation. Your prayers and support are solicited.

May this endeavour be for the glory of our Triune God.
